The All New Intel Core i9 Processor

The All New Intel Core i9 Processor

Intel formally introduced last year the Core i9 high–end chips for PC enthusiasts.

Intel Core i9 brings the firm’s most powerful CPU into the mobile world and possibly the most powerful family of consumer chips ever made.

It’s clear that the idea with this processor is to bring desktop and laptops alike ,hexa-core power to gaming laptops and prosumer devices.

The Core i9 family consists of what’s known as the Skylake-X architecture with processors that include 10,12,14,16 cores. Additionally, The Cofee Lake H-series and U-series Intel Core Processors, Core i9 CPUs for laptops and Intel Optane are currently taking over mobile memory.

All 3 new types of product are designed to give Intel what it needs to deliver top-tier performance. As earlier said, Intel is poised to continue its dominance of the mobile computing world in 2018.

The Core i9’s massive core count makes it ideal for ‘multitasking’ [playing, recording and streaming a game].

The 12-core 7920x is the fastest, available Core i9 at the moment although the Core i9 consumes more power and that’s why the use of a new socket [R4, a2, 066-pin LGA] comes into play but requires a new motherboard.

Intel’s Core i9 family is not backward compatible with existing Skylake motherboards.

Feature

The new feature within most of the i9 chips is what Intel calls an updated Intel Boost Max Technology 3.0 where the chip identifies not just one but two cores as the best one.

This feature is not available in the lower-end Core i9 chips though only from the Core i7 7820X [8 cores, 16 threads] on up through the 7900X, 7920X, 7960X, and 7980X.

Prices

The core i9 isn’t for everyone. You don’t need 18 cores and 36 threads unless you are doing resource intense multitasking.

The Core i9 chips will be priced from £1404 to £1193. The least expensive 7th Gen intel processors will be the Core i5-7640X, at £170 while the most expensive will be the Extreme Edition [Core i9-7970XE] sold for £1404.

Does the Core i9 fit into the Intel family?

Definitely! It’s Intel fifth PC processor family, starting with the Core m and moving up through the traditional Core i3, i5, and i7 chips to Core i9. As the numerical sequencing suggests, Core i9 represents Intel’s most prestigious chip family, offering the best performance at the highest price.

The top-of-the-model  announced is the Intel Core i9-8950HK which can reach speeds of up to 4.8GHz with turbo boost. Intel says that translates to up to a 29 percent overall speed boost over the previous seventh generation Intel chips.

It’s not really clear what makes a chip a Core i9. The lowest-end Core i9-7900X, for example, shares the same amount of cores as the previous 10-core Core i7-6950X. Still, if you are looking to buy or build today and want the highest Intel has to offer, Core i9 is probably the easiest way to tell.

The Core i9-7980X is basically Intel’s fastest consumer CPU to date.

The Core i9 is like an extra firepower and Intel call it ‘the best gaming and creation laptop processor it has ever built’.

However, it’s not all good news for Intel: according to a report from Bloomberg, Apple has kicked off a project that may see it replacing Intel chips in Macs with its own custom silicon by 2020.
