Common laptop problems and easy fixes for them.

Common laptop problems and easy fixes for them.

No matter what you use your laptop for, you need it working all the time. Over the years laptops have gone from gigantic and large to slim and lightweight. But, even with all the upgrades in power, size, capacity and memory, laptop problems still arise pretty regularly. Despite how gentle we try to be, our laptops will probably be dropped, spilled upon or worse. Laptops have complicated and delicate internal components, meaning that there are literally thousands of different ways they could fail or become damaged. Once a laptop starts showing the tiniest sign of malfunctioning, we start fretting, panic sets in or we get frustrated, especially when we don’t have an idea of what could possibly be wrong with it. Two major option might occur at that moment: to repair your laptop or to recycle your laptop. Whatever option you opt for goes, as long as you get satisfaction from it.

While there are thousands of specific ways these devices may need a repair, they are usually caused by similar issues that are shared between components. As long as you know what you can do, you can get back to work in no time. In order to effectively repair a computer or laptop and stop the issue from reoccurring, you need to be able to detect exactly what’s wrong with it. If the problem is serious enough it may warrant hiring a professional computer repair technician

Here is a list of five common problems  and how you can fix them.

1. OVERHEATING.

Overheating problems are common with laptops. Overheating can lead to irreparable damage to your battery, hard drive, or any other internal component.

If your laptop suddenly shuts off from time to time after you have been using it for an hour or two, it could be because it is overheating. You may also notice that your laptop’s fan is constantly running or frequently freezes.

What to do about an overheating laptop:

  • Give your laptop room to breathe.
  • Keep your laptop clean.
  • Close unnecessary processes.
  • Use a laptop cooling stand.

2. LAPTOP WON’T TURN ON OR WILL NOT CHARGE

The most obvious issue a computer can have is if it refuses to power on. If you try to turn on your laptop and it will not turn on, then there is no cause for alarm just yet. Instead, you should try to charge the battery and make sure that you have enough juice to power it up.

One of the common issues with laptops is that because they are wireless, sometimes people do not realise that the battery is low or close to dying when they are trying to use it.

If your laptop will not turn on, try the following:

  • Take the battery out of the laptop and clean any dust off of it as well as where it connects to the laptop.
  • Check your power cord and make sure that it does not have a short.
  • You may need to replace your battery.
  •  If none of the above works, then it is time to take your laptop to a computer shop for laptop repairs.

 3. LAPTOP RUNNING BUT ONLY SEE A BLANK SCREEN.

There have been many laptop users seeing their laptop screen become black. In many cases, their laptop screen shows totally nothing, while for some the mouse cursor (only) is still visible. If you try to turn on your laptop and the keyboard lights up, and you can hear the fan running, but nothing is on the display, there is likely a reasonable explanation for not being able to see anything on the screen.

Try these one at a time:

  • Restart the explorer.exe process.
  • Enter safe mode and undo recent changes.
  • Hard reset your laptop.
  • Reinstall your memory.
  • Have your laptop serviced.

If none of the above works, it could be a broken motherboard or memory failure.

If memory failure is not the problem, then you most likely have a motherboard issue, and there is no quick fix. Take your laptop to the shop and hope for the best outcome.

4. LAPTOP COMPUTER VIRUSES

The most notorious cause of issues in laptops comes in the forms of viruses. These are pieces of malicious software that are deliberately designed to steal your information and destroy your computer’s files. Even with protection on your laptop and avoiding websites that can give you viruses, from time to time you may get a virus.
